What to Expect
Your First Visit: The Dental Examination
We believe a comprehensive first exam is the best way to begin the process of obtaining a healthy, beautiful smile. When you first arrive, Dr. Scheele will sit with you, in a casual atmosphere, and discuss your dental health, concerns, goals, and individual needs. During this informal discussion, you will begin your journey together toward your true smile makeover.
During your initial appointment you will need to provide necessary information relating to past dental history, medications, and insurance information. After that, your dental professional will lead you to one of many comfortable diagnostic areas. In order to ensure success in our procedures, we take the necessary time to fully and thoroughly evaluate your present dental condition. We use many diagnostic tools, such as: X-rays, models, photographs, visual examination, full periodental exam, cancer screening, and aesthetic evaluations. Our goal is to give our clients all the necessary information and individualized attention so that they may make better-educated choices concerning their cosmetic dentistry options.
During your initial dental examination, Dr. Scheele and his dental team will:
- Take necessary dental x-rays.
- Perform a full-mouth periodontal probing to determine any signs of gum disease. We will create a chart of your teeth, recording areas of disease, bleeding, or other gum tissue problems.
- Intra-orally check the tongue, cheeks, and surrounding soft tissue for any sign of cancer.
- Perform a complete cavity check of every tooth.
- Evaluate a thorough evaluation of your occlusion (how well your teeth meet).
- Take digital and diagnostic photographs necessary to create a computerized image for a complete smile analysis.
Your Second Visit: The Smile Analysis and Consultation
In order for you to be comfortable with a cosmetic procedure, it helps if you
are shown what can realistically be achieved through cosmetic dentistry. About a week after your initial visit, we will schedule a follow-up consultation. During this meeting, we will discuss your examination results, educate you of options you have available, and allow you to preview attainable results using our computer imaging technology. During this presentation, you are encouraged to be actively involved in the planning of your new smile and will be given time to discuss questions and concerns with Dr. Scheele and his dental team. By being given the opportunity to view before and after pre-operative imaging, you will have a better understanding of what results can be expected and have a greater peace of mind. You will receive a printed copy of the recommended cosmetic dentistry plan to take home and discuss with friends and family. Upon deciding cosmetic dentistry is right for you, your next appointment will be scheduled. Then, you eagerly await your makeover to begin.
